About this listen

The continued musings of a hapless wanderer. Younger than Bill Bryson, smaller than Levison Wood, and hairier than Julia Bradbury. In his latest adventure, our bumbling yet affable narrator walks the 100 miles of the stunning and dramatic West Highland Way.

Join him on a memorable hike that takes in all the splendour of the Scottish Highlands. With grand imposing scenery and beautiful shimmering lochs. Mountain peaks, midges, Highland Cows, Irn-Bru, turnip pizzas, waterfalls, wild open moors and going to increasingly bizarre lengths to avoid sleeping in a tent. If you like the sound of any of these things, then this is undoubtedly the audiobook for you.

Write, sleep and repeat

Could definitely go on another ramble with you. Thank you for the adventure and here’s to more in Scotland?

Loved it. Another light hearted gem of a book.

Really enjoy Stephen Reynolds approach to writing and walking. Light hearted and relaxed. Just getting out there and doing it with mindful forced acquaintances, musings and damn right making the most of the generous time he has.
This is the 2nd of his books I've read after Just off for a little walk and looking forwards to the 3rd Nomad en suite.

S Reynolds dies it again!!!

After reading Just Off for a Walk, I didn't think Stephen Reynolds would be able to top it... but in good old fashioned style, S Reynolds matched it, taking me on a journey through the Highlands, and a place I have never been.
With hilarious tales of woe and of Great feats (or should that be feels?) I am in awe of S Reynolds resolve and determination to walk through midge bites and scale Ben Nevis!

So beautiful to listen to

I think the appeal is that Stephen Reynolds is that he is not some super human, hard as nails explorer, walking the coastal paths and sleeping under hedges at night. He is like us, spends his days (maybe less of them now) in front of a screen and not sleeping very well at night and then manages these wonderful escapes on to our beautiful long distance trails, but aiming for a comfy bed each night. I hope there are more on the way :-)

Not great

I listened to his first book and it wasn’t great but, as it was free, I thought I’d give his second book a try to see if it’s an better and it is, but only slightly. What I really grates on me is, dear reader, how he keeps addressing me as ‘dear reader’ in every other sentence (or at least that how often it felt). If I could physically assault an audio book when this happens then I would. I’ve managed to endure several hours of the audio book and I’m not sure if I’m going to attempt to listen to the rest of it, which is unusual for me as I normally listen to the end.

Good if you have done the WHW

Reading some of the below reviews, I can agree with their critiques. The over use of ‘dear reader’ and pointless off stories do indeed become very frustrating! Also some of the writers opinions seem a little unjust. E.g constantly banging on about if you haven’t done Ben Nevis at the end you haven’t really done the WHW.
I only reached the end because I have a love for the WHW and Scotland in general. I have completed it once and plan on doing it again (both times not completing Ben Nevis at the end). I think it helped I knew of the places he was describing.

Don't let me put you off

Didn't enjoy as much as book 1, perhaps because I don't know Scotland, I wasn't as interested? It was okay but felt a bit dull for me, and though I enjoyed some parts, overall I was glad to finish really. Can't really put my finger on it. I am however still looking forward to the next in the series!
