About this listen
Meet mythology's 50 fiercest females in this modern retelling of the world's greatest legends.
From feminist fairies to blood-sucking temptresses, half-human harpies, and protective Vodou goddesses, these are women who go beyond long-haired, smiling stereotypes. Their stories are so powerful, so entrancing, that they have survived for millennia. Lovingly retold and updated, Kate Hodges places each heroine, rebel, and provocateur firmly at the center of their own narrative. Players include:
- Bewitching, banished Circe, an introvert famed and feared for her transfigurative powers
- The righteous Furies, defiantly unrepentant about their dedication to justice
- Fun-loving Ame-no-Uzume who makes quarreling friends laugh and terrifies monsters by flashing at them
- The fateful Morai sisters who spin a complex web of birth, life, and death
Find your tribe, fire your imagination, and be empowered by this essential anthology of notorious, demonized, and overlooked women.

So well researched
I found that I couldn’t listen to too much in one go as the women began to merge but I was fascinated by each & every one.

some interesting information
It's nice to see this information collected in one place for ease of access, but it does all feel quite superficial. This is understandable given the constraints of a book, but I would have enjoyed a deeper dive, into fewer characters personally.

Highly enjoyable skip through warriors, witches, women and goddesses of many cultures. Really interesting and gave me plenty of names to look into further.

Very Good
I really enjoyed this book. particularly the 'scene setting' and feminist textual analysising. This gave deeper understanding to each myth. And it was interesting to see how some of them travel around the world and were adapted for the times. It's also interesting how similar themes crop up across countries and timelines.
I listened to the audio version of this book. And the narration was good, clear and easy to follow.

well told and thoughtful.I particularly valued the links to modern culture and societies
Sonetimes hard to follow as an audiobook. It might be easier to read than to listen

Great book not quite right for audiobook
I really enjoyed this book and it made me want to buy the book - would make a great coffee table book. However although brilliantly read it doesn’t quite work as an audiobook as just comes across as reading a list.

not the best book to read by listening to it
there are too many women mentioned for it to make a good listening. It would be a better book to read.
