About this listen

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of We Need to Talk About... Kevin Bridges. Aged 17, Kevin Bridges walked on stage for the first time and brought the house down. He only had a five-minute set but he discovered he really could earn a living from making people laugh.

Kevin began life as a shy, nerve-ridden school-boy. Reaching his teens, he followed his true calling as the class clown. This was a guy going somewhere - off the rails seeming most likely. Kevin's trademark social commentary, sharp one-liners, and laugh-out-loud humour blend with his reflections on his Glaswegian childhood and the journey he's taken to become one of the most-loved comedians of our time.

F#@!kin ragin it finished!

What an amazing story! So young when he started, having the balls to do it and never giving up! Most kids are drowning in self esteem issues at that age and listening to this could really inspire anyone to follow their dreams! A great roll model for the younger generation!

I really enjoyed this autobiography and with the author reading it himself adds an extra level of character that no other person could ever do!

Well worth the time especially if your a fan!

Best of Luck Kevin

Thoroughly enjoyed this!

TBH I wondered if a autobiography at this age would work. But I needn’t have concerned myself. Kevin is an articulate and honest narrator of his own childhood and gradual but earnest development into a professional comedian.

What is striking on reflection is that he is very spartan with jokes and purposeful humour. But then this is not a stand-up routine! It is however a great story of how an introverted and still relatively shy individual, can develop a passion for stand-up into a mega career in comedy. In also stuck me that the road was hard, with success coming only from graft and an understanding of the rites and dues one has to pay to succeed and be considered a professional comedian.

Kevin is also a natural narrator and the experience was enhanced by his own delivery of his story.

Truthful, Brave story from an ordinarily funny guy.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, My brothers and My Wife, we all share a similar sense of humour. Plus we like Kevin Bridges.

What was one of the most memorable moments of We Need to Talk About Kevin Bridges?

When Kevin describes his first days at school, the relationship he has with his Mum.
I thought that Kevin was brave to share these very personal memories.
Also his very first public performance at 17, this shows how dedicated he was to fulfill his dream to be a stand up comedian.

Have you listened to any of Kevin Bridges’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No, other than seeing Kevin on TV.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, It did make me laugh.

Any additional comments?

Great story of a young man with an incredible tallent to tell every day stories in a way to make them funny.

As funny as as his stand up.

Incredibly funny listen. some of the things he got up to as a kid I remember doing myself. An honest working class funny guy that has made it big but will never forget where he is from. One of the best comedians about today. super light listen that will make you laugh out loud.

Fantastic!!

After seeing all his dvd's, multiple tv appearances and also a live show last year at the Hydro, it's is a fantastic read that gives you an insight into just how hard he has worked to be where he is today, 10/10!

Enjoyable read

Interesting to hear what was needed to be done to make it as a stand up comic. Enjoyed the stories from school.
