Exactly As Expected
As a student of the Napoleonic Wars and an admirer of the Duke of Wellington this is extremely interesting & draws up emotion as one hears his actual thoughts and the list of names of so many great men who were involved. Written in the Duke's usual eloquent and precise style for which he was know this book is a great snapshot into the wider full Military Despatches which are also excellent and a must read for anyone interested in the period or the man himself. The dispatch was and still is controversial as it fails to mention arguably officers and units more deserving of recognition however this can be overplayed as he wrote this from memory in a period of great mental, physical and emotional exhaustion; having just fought a bloody battle and lost so many of his colleagues.
