Summary

Like many, Mackenzie Garret complains about the weather. It is the hottest summer anyone can remember. The high temperatures are out of control with no end in sight. Until it all changes.

Overnight, blue skies become gray, and the hot, humid weather turns to rain, then snow, then ice as the temperature plummets.

The entire northern half of the country is thrown into chaos as blow by blow, storm after storm, nature rips into the world, tearing it apart. Towns and cities are evacuated, and Mac and her family are forced to leave their world behind and face a treacherous journey south to safety.

Will they make it, or will they be left behind in this new, frozen world?

Epically good!

Such a sensitive and yet hugely exciting story. I’m not a cryer but this book made me cry! The narrator was a perfect choice for this story, and is certainly one of the best I’ve ever heard. This was so good I’m just about to start another book by this author.

The story

The storyline itself was fantastic. So much went on and I kept finding myself wanting more. The narration however is awful. It is so flat and monotone. It is often stilted and hard to follow. I ended up having to really push myself to finish the book. It became a challenge. I don’t know how but the narration seemed to get worse the further into the audiobook we got. Do yourself a favour. Read this and don’t listen.

Good story, poor reading style

Toneless pace of the reader almost made the story unbearable in places but it was a good story 😁

Very odd and disjointed

The narrator sounds like a teenager, rather than a woman in her late 30s/early 40s and her tone is whiny/snarky, which is totally unsuitable for the story.

The plotting and characterisation are all over the place. For example, the story begins in one place then goes back to the past, but never returns to the story’s start in the ‘present’. The main character goes from being a naive fool who refuses to accept reality, to murderous mom in a few pages, then returns to whiny bickering with her mother in law as if nothing happened - it’s all just a bit silly. She also forgets to ask about her missing family on several occasions, which seems unlikely!

This had potential, but ultimately was disappointing.

bad narrator good unexpected storyline

surprisingly slightly gritty storyline, easy to listen to written wise but narrator almost put me off straight away. not just annoying but didn't seen right for the character. definitely worth a listen for fellow dramatic events, doomsday, apocalypse type genre people!

Narrator made me dislike main character

Basic story line a good idea but not much substance to story and the narration made the main character sound childlike, spoilt and unlikeable.
