About this listen

If you grow up in a world where wrinkles are practically illegal, going bald is cause for a mental breakdown, and women over size zero are encouraged to shoot themselves (immediately), what the hell do you do if you're, gasp.... disabled?

Whatever body you're born into, the pressure to be normal is everywhere. But have you ever met a normal person? What do they look like? Where do they live? What do they eat for breakfast? And what the **** does normal mean anyway?

This is the award-winning wobbly comedian Francesca Martinez's funny, personal, and universal story of how she learned to stick two shaky fingers up to the crazy expectations of a world obsessed with being 'normal'.

Just wonderful!

I didn't want this book to end. I've been a fan of Francesca Martinez for ages and have heard her perform and speak live many times so I know what a powerful, talented and awesome person she is. I feel like I know her personally after hearing her relate not just her own experiences but a perspective on life that is truly amazing and important, both personally and politically. She had me tutting angrily at the stupidity of the PE teacher, cheering when she won the Edinburgh Fringe comedy award and laughing out loud throughout this lovely book. Francesca's views on self-acceptance, turbo consumerism and the necessity of lived equality for all of us are absolutely spot on. I'm looking forward to lots more of her work. What's next Francesca?

Just incredible

A powerful and beautiful account of Francesca's life so far. It manages to be part biography and part self help book as Francesca comes to term with who she is and her place in the world, and there are lessons everyone can take from this. I found this book moving, profound and deeply helpful. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

This is an awesome book. Hilariously funny, so relateable, and possibly some of the wisest words I've ever heard.
