Summary
It sounded so simple in theory: ready...aim...fire...but what actually transpired was so much more.
Officer Nicole Nolan holds the gun steady in her hands, knowing that life will be forever altered once she pulls the trigger. Her position as a small-town police officer is to protect those who cannot protect themselves. It is her career, and her life.
Amanda stands where protection does not exist. With several failed relationships behind her, Amanda turns a blind eye to the possessiveness Josh displays in order to soothe her desperate need to be loved. As the mental abuse turns violent, Amanda must deal with the denial and embarrassment of being a victim once again. With her emotional and physical health sitting on the edge, she must fight to regain control of her life.
A gripping story with one final destination, but will it be life or death?

Will make you think
Amanda, is a attractive young woman, with a good job,, who meets a man with the same interests , and all seems good. But very slowly he chips away at her , verbally abuse , putting her down and then physical abuse. With the relationship getting worse , she finds the courage to walk away.
Nicole is a Police Officer and respected .who helps domestic abuse victims . This is a powerful story and a great listen. I thought Julie Walters was perfect as the narrator .

Wow!
I had never heard of Stacy Eaton before listening to this book, but she's now an author I won't soon forget. I hate to say that I loved this story because it's a sad yet, unfortunately, realistic portrayal of domestic violence that many women are forced to endure on a daily basis. I guess what I loved was the point of view from a woman being abused and also from that of a police officer trying to help battered women get away from their abusers. I also loved that Stacy is a retired police officer herself which made the story that much more real for me. I was worried for Nicole every time she went on a call and for Amanda every time she was abused. Throughout the whole story, I was wondering how Amanda and Nicole's story would eventually come together. It was totally unexpected but brilliantly written although I wish there had been a brief epilogue at the end. Julie Walters did an amazing job bringing this story to life.
I was given this audiobook for free at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Edge of the seat suspense
The first question you might ask yourself while reading this story is probably why would the victim continually put up with this abuse. And at one time I might have asked that same question, but when a friend confided in me that she had been an abused spouse, I was speechless. She had hidden it so well. I had always pre-judged people in abusive situations, and my curiosity led me to listen to her with an open mind as she told me the reasons she stayed in the relationship for so many years. Later, I did my own research when I decided to write a story of domestic abuse and was shocked to discover repeated stories from victims just like her. I love the way Stacy Eaton tells her stories. They are suspenseful, make you think, and like this one, give an element of surprise. She's an outstanding author. The reader is fantastic with a clear, professional recording. Thank you, Stacy for offering me a free review copy of this book.
