Summary

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses. Raised among the Wardens - a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe - Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most.

Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever. Then she meets Roth - a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to - especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul. But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne...it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

Love this series

I read this book series years ago when I was a teenager, and it was one of my favorite book series. Decided to give it another listen here on audible and loved it just as much as I did the first time.

Great but dragged

I loved this book and have purchased the next in the series. I do find that it can drag though so I listen on speed x1.5

Another gem from Armentrout

After reading both the Lux and Covenant series, I was curious what else Jennifer has up her sleeve and the first book of the Dark Elements didn't disappoint. More moderate than the above two, slower to unfold but also more complicated and smarter in some sense. The characters are great as always, the loveable villain can be another addition to the Best Book Boyfriends list, and the narrator is fantastic. J.L.A. Just knows how to write paranormal YA romance - looking forward to the next book in this series!
