About this listen
You think you’re safe.
You think you know your neighbours.
But can you ever really know who’s telling the truth?
Jeannie Symonds is a force to be reckoned with – an eccentric, award-winning publisher, spending lockdown with her husband in a house near Kesterly-on-Sea. She seems to have it all: a high-flying career, a happy marriage, a niece she adores.
And then one day, she vanishes.
Cara Jakes is a new trainee investigator – young, intelligent and eager to prove herself. When she teams up with detective Andee Lawrence to look into the disappearance, she is determined to find out what has really happened to Jeannie. Cara begins to question the residents of this close-knit community, sure that someone has a secret to hide.
But how can she separate the truth from the lies?

Excellent story and narration spoilt by pandemic references
As always Susan Lewis creates a clever plot and a cast of apparently delightful and engaging characters, not all of them who they initially appear to be once the closed doors are opened up! Sofia Zervudachi did a brilliant narration, one of the best I’ve heard in quite a while. For me the story was spoilt by constant references to lockdowns, masks and social distancing. All the characters including the younger ones apparently followed the rules to the letter. Does Susan Lewis live in a make believe world as well as writing about one? My experience of people following the rules (especially but not limited to younger ones!) was vastly different and much more real and I would have preferred it if Susan could have allowed for this and not made all the characters seem like they were all model citizens who never broke the rules.

Confusing and a difficult read
I found this book hard to follow and a little irritating. The dates kept chopping and changing and I had to keep stopping to think about who was who most of the time. I also sadly didn’t enjoy all the Covid references. Not for me sadly.

1st one of Susan’s book I didn’t really enjoy
Usually love Susan’s books but this one seemed to go on for ages and some of the accents especially the Scottish one weren’t great sorry

Long and drawn out
I didn’t enjoy this book at all. It was too long and the story drawn out to nothing. It could have been done in half the chapters. I kept listening in the hope it would get exciting but it didn’t unfortunately. Very disappointing.
