Summary
John Rain has disappeared to Brazil to escape the killing business and the enemies encircling him in Japan. But the CIA isn't willing to lose its premier "natural causes" contract killer, and they force Rain to take on a high-risk assignment: eliminate a ruthless arms dealer operating in Southeast Asia. The upside? Financial, of course, along with the ongoing chimera of moral redemption. But first, Rain will have to survive the downside: a second assassin zeroing in on the target; the target's consort, an alluring and dangerous woman with an agenda of her own; the possibility that the entire mission is nothing but an elaborate setup. From the gorgeous beaches of Rio to the glitzy casinos of Macau to the gritty back streets of Hong Kong and Kowloon, Rain becomes a reluctant player in an international game far deadlier and more insidious than any he has encountered before.

A more traditional (and better) spy/assassin story
I really liked this one. Less of the "see how much I know about Tokyo". Instead a more traditional spy/ assassin stuff with very little of the story playing out in Tokyo. Also gone is the political theme that drove the story in the previous books. New and likable (and complex) characters are introduced.
A fairly easy to follow story as well. Not everything goes to plan of course. A degree of uncertainty and unpredictability makes it an even better listen. Or as John Rain said - "Perfect is the enemy of good".
However the narration is just that - perfect. Hands down the best author narration I've listened to. (The droll "Hi, my name is ..." comment made me laugh out loud). Still chuckling when I think about it. Don't worry. I haven't spoiled anything.
An easy to recommend book. Will continue to follow the series.
