About this listen
The future has amazing technology. Our alien allies have magic. Together, we are building a training system to teach the best of humanity to go to the stars. But the training is monumentally expensive. Stephanie Morgana is a genius, she just doesn't know it. The artificial intelligence that runs the virtual world is charged with testing Stephanie, a task it has never performed before. Will Stephanie pass the test and be moved to the advanced preparatory schools, or will the system miss her? Will the AI be able to judge a human's potential in an area where it has no existing test data to compare?

Enjoyable Listen
Slow build up but an enjoyable storyline.
Stephanie is doing the mandated tests to see if she can get into prep school but being from the poor side of the city, she knows it will never happen. Bert the AI is tasked with testing her and sees a lot of potential in Stephanie so he decides to do all he can to get Stephanie the best of the best. Being an AI, he can hide everything without getting caught (naughty Bert lol).
We see Stephanie progress with her powers and forge new bonds.
The narrator is really good and brings the story to life.

Little slow
I think if I was an American teenager I would have enjoyed this book more. It can be hard to understand the American thinking behind the writing as it’s so different from how we think here in Scotland, academic value and competition being less of a drive, as is military and fighting. I bought it mostly as I love magic books, I like books that are high hours and have a lot in the series to keep me going. (I listen to audible as I work, so they can run out quickly) It was definitely slow as treacle in some bits, and the timescales of her deveined friendships got me a wee bit cross, e.g. working with folk for a day and all of a sudden they are a team and good companions. But really these are small things. If I was a teenager I would not have even noticed. Generally entertaining, but not quite 5 star.

God mode
the world or world's I should say this is set in is very well made and immersive. only down side to this book is the main character and her crew seeming to god mode absolutely every situation they find themselves in. the main character is a know it all brat who turns into a god when she throws a tantrum. you begin to lose interest in the "high tense" situations because of plot armour.
