About this listen

For the first time in one audio collection, all 16 Yes Minister radio episodes plus six further TV episodes, 14 Yes Prime Minister episodes and two bonus sketches.

Between 1980 and 1988 on BBC television and radio, the exploits of the Rt Hon Jim Hacker MP (Paul Eddington) - later Prime Minister - kept the British nation enthralled. Helped - and hampered - by his diligent Permanent Secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby (Nigel Hawthorne) and his Principle Private Secretary Bernard Woolley (Derek Fowlds), Hacker and his department became synonymous with government bureaucracy and administrative double dealing. Presented here, for the first time in one collection, are the complete radio series of Yes Minister and the complete BBC television soundtracks of Yes Prime Minister. Also included are six TV soundtracks of Yes Minister and two special bonus mini-episodes: "The PM’s Plan", recorded in 1984 with Margaret Thatcher as herself, and a special segment created for "The Funny Side of Christmas" in 1982.

What can I say about this phenomenal series that hasn't already been said a thousand times before? If (like me) you loved the television series then there's no reason why you won't like these audio versions, since they use the same amazing scripts (adapted for radio) and star the same original cast (indeed even many of the minor characters are played by the same actors). Not only that but they also manage to convey all of the fun and spontaneity that was present in the TV series which lifted it from merely "good" to "truly great". Buy it, you will not be disappointed.

Classic comedy series. Brought back all the memories from 30 years ago. So full of memorable quotes that have become part of the English language.

And thirty years on we're still debating the same things - Some things change, some stay the same:

One: I am not a "badger-butcher".
Two: badgers are not an endangered species.
Three: the removal of protective status does not necessarily mean the badgers will be killed.
Four: if a few badgers have to be sacrificed for the sake of a master plan that will save Britain's natural heritage - tough!
- Episode Six: The Right to Know

Amazing

Highly amusing, worrying if true. Sir Humphrey really does seem to have two faces. A battle of words and of words. Well written.

Highly amusing

Had a proper good laugh listening to this , Has more premonitions than all of the Simpsons episodes put together.
It could have been made yesterday , just brilliant.

Still relevant today

It was nice hearing all of the episodes from Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister in one collection. It's even funnier than I remember with great performances from Nigel Hawthorn as Humphrey and Paul Edington as Jim Hacker. Politics really hasn't changed.

A lot of laughs.

Amazing classic comedy that actually works really well on an Audiobook format. Really well written, it's a shame that this style is lost to slapstick.

HEE-LARIOUS

Would you listen to Yes Minister & Yes Prime Minister - The Complete Audio Collection again? Why?

I would and I have, many times. I first downloaded this as to listen before bed in a noisy university halls of residence 2 years ago. Since then I have gone through the collection many times. It's that good. It is as relevant and funny today for me in uni as it was when it was first made.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Comic timing and characters that really fit the characters they play.

Any additional comments?

If I could only have one 'book' from Audible, it'd be this one.

Outstanding
