In Jennifer Craig's enchanting memoir, we meet these warm-hearted yet naïve young girls as they get to grips with strict discipline, long hours and bodily fluids. But we also see the camaraderie that develops in evening study sessions, sneaked trips to the cinema, and mischievous escapades with the young trainee doctors. The harsh conditions prove too much for some girls, but the opportunity to help her patients in their time of need is too much of a pull for Jenny. As she commits to her vocation and knuckles down to her exams, she is determined that when she reaches the heights of Ward Sister herself she will not become the frightening matron that struck fear into her student heart.
Rich in period detail, and told with a good dose of Yorkshire humour, Yes Sister, No Sister is a life-affirming true story of a life long past.

What did you like most about Yes Sister, No Sister?
As a nurse and now a nursingteacher in Norway I found the book very interesting. Some I could refere back to my own training in the 90' and sometimes when Jennifer Craige quote her teachers from the 50s I had to laugh out loud, hearing my own words as a current nursingteacher. Some things is still true, apparently. I also found the book interesting as a historic document. It gave an insight to a time gone bye.Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I found myself making time to listen nearly all the time.Excellent book !!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Yes Sister, No Sister to be better than the print version?
Yes the audiobook is much better than a regular book. The book being narrated by the author makes it very real. It's like being told a very captivating and interesting life story. I have listened to it several times and enjoy it each time.What did you like best about this story?
The best part of it is the fact that it evokes the time and the setting perfectly. It is very easy to imagine the young trainee nurses,each with their individual characters and back stories.Have you listened to any of Jennifer Craig’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Would you try another book written by Jennifer Craig or narrated by Jennifer Craig?
I really liked the story but would have found it more enjoyable had it been read by a more experienced reader nearer to the age of the nurse while training. It 'read' not performed and with this lost a lot of the charm. Loved her style and would like to hear more but with a different readerWould you be willing to try another one of Jennifer Craig’s performances?

It really showed what life was like for a student nurse in the '50's. I can see so many of the characters in the book from my own experiences in the NHS at that time.Good story but needs a more suitable reader

As a NHS clinical worker, I was struck by how different Nursing and Midwifery training is now compared to that time.
The voice of the narrator was calming and she read the book very well.
