About this listen
I want to show you how you can be a champion in almost anything you put your mind to.
Marcus Rashford MBE is famous worldwide for his skills both on and off the pitch – but before he was a Manchester United and England footballer, and long before he started his inspiring campaign to end child food poverty, he was just an ordinary kid from Wythenshawe, South Manchester. Now the nation's favourite footballer wants to show YOU how to achieve your dreams, in this positive and inspiring guide for life.
Written with journalist Carl Anka, You Are a Champion is packed full of stories from Marcus’s own life, plus brilliant advice and top-tips from performance psychologist Katie Warriner. It will show you how to be the very BEST that you can be.
It shows kids how to:
- Be comfortable with who you are – you can't be a champion until you're happy being you!
- Dream big
- Practise like a champion
- Get out of your comfort zone and learn from your mistakes
- Navigate adversity in a positive way
- Find your team
- Use your voice and stand up for others
- Never stop learning
With an afterword by Tim S. Grover, trainer and mentor to Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.
Critic reviews
Marcus has spoken for, and inspired, millions of children who are from similar backgrounds to him, helping them to see that your current situation does not have to determine where you are going. That is so so powerful. (Siya Kolisi, South African rugby captain and world cup winner)
Enjoyed by 9&7 year old.

In this short book, Marcus talks about his own story and what drives him to succeed. It is aimed at young people and he describes it as the sort of book that he would have liked when he was aspiring to greatness. We learn that he is the youngest of five and his love of Coco Pops. He encourages readers to become the best version of themselves they can be and to define success as trying your best and this will lead to increased confidence.
These are wise words indeed and he challenges readers to look at themselves in the mirror for ten seconds every morning and to ask themselves what they want their day to be like.
Learning, of course, never stops and the only competition in life is with yourself. This is an excellent and inspiring book and I liked it so much I bought a copy for my nephew who loves football. Five stars.

The book also provides insight into Marcus as a person, showing some of the influences that made him who he is today.
A must-buy for the young people in your life, or for anyone who prefers their self-help books brief and to-the-point.
I'm quite amazed that Marcus and Carl managed to cram so much valuable information and advice into such a small package. In today's busy world, I'd like to see more books like this one! I'll definitely re-listen in the future.
As usual, Marcus Rashford has set an example that puts most of us to shame!
