About this listen

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of You Were Gone by Tim Weaver, read by Joe Coen, Rachel Bavidge and Tom Burke.

Three days after Christmas, a woman walks into a police station. She has no phone and no ID, just a piece of paper with the name of investigator David Raker on it. She tells officers that Raker is her husband.

SHE SAYS SHE'S MY WIFE.

When he turns up at the station, Raker is stunned. The woman looks exactly like his wife. She knows all about their marriage, their history, even private conversations the two of them had. There's just one problem: Raker's wife has been dead for eight years.

MY WIFE DIED . . . DIDN'T SHE?

The woman tells the police that Raker had a breakdown. A respected doctor backs up her account. Items are missing that prove Raker's side of the story - and, worst of all, he soon becomes the prime suspect in a disappearance.

SHE'S EITHER A LIAR - OR I AM.

Could Raker have imagined their whole marriage? Is he delusional? Is this really the woman he loved and grieved for? Hunted by the police, Raker will have to find out the truth before it costs him everything - his memories, his sanity, his life . . .

Another masterpiece - tense, nerve-jangling, heart-wrenching to the end

I love Tim Weaver’s books and the way he writes. This has been no different . From the start it had my nerves on edge. I couldn’t second guess where it would go and my heart was racing as the book progressed .

I loved the way the characters fleshed out and the way it made me think about the way they acted and my emotions towards some of them changed .

Can’t wait to read the next one now.

Another gripping listen

I do love Tim Weaver books and they are good to read or listen to. This one was strange to start with and hard to understand how she was his wife. It had good twists and excellent story line

Excellent narration

A real page turner. What you would expect from a Reacher tale; gripping and full of twists.

Mind blowing

Maybe the best Raker yet. I couldn’t stop listening -while drinking , housework , shopping , dog walking etc . The last but had me in floods of tears. Difficult to believe it was written by a man! Congratulations to all involved in the Audible version . These books are made to be listened to. Only one left- get writing Tim!

Bonkers!!!

I am a big fan of Tim Weaver, have bought all the David Raker books and always look forward to the next book, however, this storyline is utter bonkers. All the way through there are big holes in the plot and ridiculous scenarios and I found myself screaming at Alexa, things like, “just look out of the bloody window” and “ tell them to look upstairs” (reader, these are not spoilers, so don’t worry) To be honest, the only thing that kept me listening was the narrator, who, while I’m sure he was also screaming inside, did a great job. I will buy the next Tim Weaver book, but I won’t be looking forward to it as much as I have done in the past.
