About this listen
The Young Gods Tournament awaits. Only the victors will break through to the worlds beyond the heavens.
In an unfair world where a single monster can wipe out an entire village, Thomas is not one of the chosen few. He wasn’t gifted with immense power from the moment of his birth, nor does he have a powerful backer to defend him.
By the laws of the world, it’s near impossible for him to rise to the top.
But where the god’s themselves have failed him, Thomas will push on and gain the strength to protect his friends, and his home, from the ever rising dangers of the world.
There is only one true opportunity to break through the shackles of his life — The Young God’s Tournament. After surviving a deadly ambush, he’ll use every ounce of his strength as he faces off against his rival Prospects, a continent-wide conspiracy, and the ever looming threat from the once-slumbering Empire.
Western Cultivation melds with LitRPG as a single man rises against an unfair world in this new series from bestseller Cale Plamann (Blessed Time, Viceroy's Pride), together with Alex Beaumont.
About the Series: Embark on a journey as Thomas gains a unique power that comes with huge risks and costs through a system including Cultivation and Xianxia elements with a LitRPG twist. This is a weak-to-strong tale focusing on a main cast, all of which grow in power together without overshadowing one another. The world is built upon politics, from the conflict between Region Lords and the Empire, to the struggle for survival of individual villages and lonely wanderers.

Could be Better
Having read other series from Plamann this looked promising and although not a familiar narrator I heard good things about Beaumont. This one failed to fully interest me however as despite an exciting contest and good writing this seemed to not catch me until a good 30% of the way through. The characters and world building worked OK but this seemed to hit a solid 4 stars across the board rather than the 4.5+ I was expecting.
Despite this the ending and run up to the end helped bring this out of the doldrums and gave a good promise of better things to come. Will probably read the next book before I move to the audio when it comes out.
I requested this audio and have decided to leave my thoughts for everyone.

This is a slow burn at the sta4
Unfortunately, it was slow through the middle, it got a tad interesting towards the end and then it ended. I don't like to leave a bad review, but this wasn't for me. The characters were not fully developed in my opinion, some could have done with a lot more padding out, there were some small hints that the story would become more interesting but I'm unlikely to read any further books in this series.
