Wednesday, June 18: In Episode 533 of The Daily Grind, we explore Mark 10:17–27, the story of the Rich Young Ruler who ran toward Jesus seeking eternal life, only to walk away sorrowful when asked to give up his wealth. This young man had morality, sincerity, and status—but not surrender. Jesus, looking at him with love, identified the one thing he lacked: freedom from his possessions. The episode dives into the cultural view of wealth in Jesus’ time, the man’s good intentions, and the heart-level invitation to let go of idols. We discuss why money is powerful, how it can promise safety but deliver bondage, and how Jesus calls each of us to total trust. We’re challenged to identify the “one thing” we wouldn’t want to let go of—whatever stands between us and wholehearted discipleship. The story ends with the man walking away sad, but Jesus offers hope: “With God, all things are possible.” In a world obsessed with holding on, this episode calls us to let go. Because following Jesus is the only true gain.
