  • 131 - Gestational Diabetes: What It Is, What to Do, and How to Feel Empowered with Prenatal Dietitian Niki Mohtat
    Jun 24 2025

Gestational diabetes (GDM) can feel overwhelming, and for many women, it comes with confusion, fear, or guilt. But a diagnosis doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong, and it certainly doesn’t mean you’re powerless.

In this episode, we’re joined by Boob to Food clinic dietitian and nutritionist Niki Mohtat to explore what GDM actually is, why it happens, and how you can manage it with confidence through nourishing food, supportive lifestyle tweaks, and the right guidance.

Niki Mohtat is a dietitian and nutritionist with a passion for supporting women through preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum. Her interest in prenatal nutrition began with her own pregnancies, where she saw firsthand how much of the information available to the public was outdated or unhelpful. This inspired her to dedicate her career to providing evidence-based, individualised, and practical nutrition guidance, so women can feel confident nourishing themselves and their growing baby. Niki has completed advanced training through The Institute for Prenatal Nutrition Mentorship Program under Lily Nichols, a highly sought-after and competitive prenatal certification program. She offers consultations through the Boob to Food online clinic.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • What gestational diabetes really is and why it happens during pregnancy
    • What the oral glucose tolerance test involves and its limitations
    • How to approach food without fear, guilt, or perfectionism
    • The role of protein, fats, and carbs (and why carbs aren’t the enemy)
    • Tips for managing fasting blood glucose levels
    • The connection between GDM and future health risks
    • Simple strategies for postpartum and long-term wellbeing
    • ... and so much more

  • 129 - Why Your Toddler Suddenly Hates Everything: Food Rejection & What to Do About It (with OT Rachael Smith)
    Jun 10 2025

It can feel frustrating (and confusing!) when your toddler suddenly starts refusing foods they used to love, especially when you’ve followed all the advice to raise an adventurous eater.

In this episode, we’re joined by paediatric occupational therapist Rachael Smith to explore the common (and completely normal) reasons for food refusal, as well as signs that it might be time to seek extra support. Whether your child is going through a phase or there’s something deeper at play, this conversation is full of practical, compassionate advice to help bring more ease to your family’s mealtimes.

For those who don’t know Rach, she is a mum to her daughter Olive and son Teddy, a Paediatric Occupational Therapist, and the owner of Therapy Time, a private practice based in Brisbane.

Even before having her own family, she has always been passionate about taking a big picture approach to child development. Rach strongly believes that what we eat has a huge impact on everything and sees this everyday in her clinical practice (and at home).

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • Why toddlers often start rejecting food around 12–18 months
    • How to tell the difference between typical fussy eating and a feeding difficulty
    • What to do when your child suddenly stops liking a previously loved food
    • Signs your child may benefit from extra feeding support
    • How to respond calmly to rejection without reinforcing it
    • The concept of food jagging and how to avoid it
    • Practical strategies to get you through this stage
    • What not to do
    • ... and so much more
