I am new (ish) to poetry … I enjoy having it read to me … I seem to understand it better that way (I like to blame dyslexia… and poor English teachers … but it could just be laziness) and love to hear those who do understand it disembowel it. So I really enjoyed your discomfort with the notion of an Atheist Heaven … which has me brewing on it for a long time now … so I guess that’s success … isn’t the point to get us thinking ? … for me … an Atheist Heaven either simply doesn’t exist ( which is more than an empty place … ) as acknowledging the existence of a heaven, empty or otherwise, is the whole point… or by saying The fact that there IS an Atheist Heaven … is he saying it’s… ‘a wasted life’ as they spent their whole lives believing such a place did not exist - and they were wrong ! Either way … thank you for the poem x
