About this listen

We’d like to introduce you to a new podcast. It’s called Different. But why different?

You know how when you’re wearing sunglasses it puts a tint on everything? Or if you wear glasses you see some things in focus and others out of focus?

Well, we all have lenses on the inside of our head too. And they tint, colour and shape everything we see, think and understand.

So, on this podcast Steve Chalke and Jill Rowe are going to dive headlong into just that as they discover a new ‘meaning making’ story and embrace a fresh way of thinking about life, the universe and everything in-between.

They will talk about getting to a place where we see our lives as part of something bigger than our day-to-day experience - becoming a part of an unfolding story. Finding joy in ordinary moments, facing failure and struggle and discovering liberation and purpose.

They’ll also discuss experiencing life as a gift and learning how to live on purpose. They’ll be peering into dark nights of the soul and finding hope. And simply learning how we are here to walk each home.

We hope you enjoy these conversations – discovering a new story and embracing new thinking.

  • Beyond the Barricades - Part One
    Jun 18 2025

In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe and Steve Chalke talk about not waiting for the cavalry, but instead realising we are the ones we've been waiting for.

We explore how change comes from a dedicated small band of people who stand up and work for a world they can see beyond the barricades. We think through why we believe everyone else is responsible rather than us, which is actually a huge deception.

And we recognise that we all have agency and there always exists the invitation to participate in creating change. We hope this episode gives you the courage to shift, move and pivot so that we can all, all move beyond the barricades together.

  • The one about pressure and the crucible of life
    Jun 4 2025

In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe and Steve Chalke talk all about distress, you-stress and de-stress. This episode is all about pressure. We discuss how it shows up in our bodies, its physiological impact.

We think about what we can do when it feels like it is all becoming too much. We even talk about tears. We reflect on the story and power of wilderness and how the pressure of a wilderness can be an invitation that can mould and shape us into the very kind of people we long to be more compassionate, more present, more humble.

We pray that this episode helps you as you navigate pressure and the crucible that life can be.

  • The one all about blame!
    May 21 2025

In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe and Steve Chalke talk all about blame. We can all jump to blame so easily, and we find it hard to take responsibility when we've done something wrong and say sorry.

Blame is a shortcut. In this episode, we pay attention to the power of self reflection, self awareness, self compassion, and the decision of forgiveness. This was a super honest and, we hope, helpful conversation.

There's plenty of joy in this one too.
