About this listen
Dr Alaa Murabit is a Libyan-Canadian medical doctor and women's rights activist. She was appointed as one of the UN Global Sustainable Development Goal Advocates, and is a UN High-Level Commissioner on Health Employment & Economic Growth. After being accepted into medical school at the age of 15, Murabit founded an NGO focusing on empowering women caught in conflict in her native Libya. In 2017 she was recognised for her work when Forbes named her one of their ‘30 Under 30’ brightest young entrepreneurs, leaders and stars.
In this episode she reveals how she came to work with the UN, reflects on the important role in influencing her worldview that her medical background played, and makes a case for continuing to promote women’s voice in global discourse.
