Thomas Wesley Pentz Jr., better known as Diplo, is a Grammy-winning American DJ and record producer based in Los Angeles, California. As well as being an in demand DJ he is a prolific producer, working with high profile artists like Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Madonna and Bruno Mars. He’s also a founding member of US dance music trio Major Lazer.
In this episode Diplo gives a potted history of his career, growing up in Florida, his early ‘Hollertronix’ mixtapes, and being asked by British rapper M.I.A. to produce her second album, which spawned the breakout hit Paper Planes. He reflects on the rapid pace of change in the music industry today and shares insights about how he manages to juggle his intense touring, label management and music production schedules.
