About this listen

Please note: this series contains mature content and listener discretion is advised.

The first ghost Jason King ever saw was his brother's. And when the spectre told Jason that he needed to find their estranged father, who disappeared during their childhood, his life was changed forever.

When documentarian Ben Lawrence reads an article about Jason, now a western Sydney security guard and part-time ghost hunter, he embarks on a seven year journey into a gothic world of suburban graveyards and broken souls.

Paranormal activity, a family's terrible forgotten secret and a police investigation converge in Ghosthunter, a part family memoir and part true crime podcast. Years of self-reflection and estranged characters from the past bring Jason and Ben to a confronting conclusion - that sometimes the most terrifying ghosts are the ones we find within ourselves.

Not at all what I was expecting but a haunting story of searching for something innocent and finding a harsh reality. I had to listen to this in one sitting, reduced to an almost zombie like state and am left with more questions than answers.

A gripping story

Life is stranger than fiction! Excellent listen and really did not expect to leap from ghost hunters to delving into a mystery!

Excellent.. Loved it

I enjoyed it. It was well done but I'm just not sure where it was supposed to be going. It's a story about a guy who had blocked out his childhood due to what we come to understand was extreme childhood trauma. The man grows up and struggles to maintain relationships and at times can be violent. He is suffering from mental health problems to the point of suicide. While the whole investigation part and telling of the story is done excellently, I wanted to say to the journalist 'why are you so surprised he's turned out this way? or, why are you so surprised this guy isn't completely honest about who he is?' This guy is petrified of turning out to be like his Dad because deep down he recognises his own destructive tendencies, he doesn't want to be a violent bad man but at times he is, so he needs constant reassurance he is a good person who does good things, such as rescues animals and befriends the victims of his Dad. He is on a constant search for his own salvation. It's an incredibly interesting, traumatic and very sad tale of this mans life and the importance of positive childhood experiences but the way he is, is not in the least bit surprising. He is a bit strange, a bit twisted, violent and a bit broken because he grew up in a world that was a bit strange, violent, twisted and broken. At some point during his childhood his mind had simply cracked and blocked it all out, maybe in part due to severe head trauma but also as a coping/survival strategy. Overall though, another great podcast series from Amazon and for listeners who like this sort of thing you won't be disappointed.

There's always two sides to every story. Sometimes, the other side is best not knowing.

"You can choose your friends but not your family"!

Better than I thought

I had been looking for an easy-listening podcast. To help me fall asleep. Within an episode, I'd forgotten I wanted to hear stories about ghosts. Gripping from the start, Ben narrates a tale of intrigue, drama, sadness, devastation, soul-searching, macabre twists and eventually, hope.

Took me less than a week to finish. Listened while doing the washing-up, hanging washing out and various everyday activities. I needed to be alone, without interruption, to be able to process the tale as it developed.

To not spoil the story for anyone reading this review, I won't detail the plot or even hint at the podcast content. But I *will* say that if you've got an open mind, are interested in the paranormal and just as interested in the horrors that are visited upon the living *by* the living, then download it.

One of my best Audible podcasts. By far.

Thank you.

Came 4 the ghosts. Ended up haunted by the living.
