La loro storia inizia e si svolge nella Repubblica di Firenze a cavallo tra il XIV e il XV secolo, con personalità come Cosimo de' Medici (soprannominato Padre della patria), Lorenzo il Magnifico, Giovanni de' Medici (divenuto Papa Leone X) e Giulio de' Medici (altro Papa, Clemente VII).

    In questa seconda parte della trilogia dedicata alla grande famiglia toscana, seguiremo le politiche e le opere del più famoso membro della stessa, Lorenzo detto il Magnifico, grande restauratore di Firenze, magnate dedito all'arte e alla cultura, che portò la sua città ai più alti livelli e al Rinascimento. Vedremo come riuscì a porre le basi perché i Medici divenissero, da semplici "banchieri dei papi" a veri e propri signori di Firenze, al pari di qualsiasi famiglia aristocratica.
