Learn and Memorize Tarot Cards

By: Quicklearn Quests
  • Summary

  • Tarot cards has been a journey of over 30 years for me. I took a two and a half day course to learn how to read tarot and I was hooked. At the time, I wanted to learn how to read tarot because I loved having my cards read and I wanted to demystify it, and also learn how to do it for myself and others.

Since this was a new skill, I relied heavily on learning the cards and the positions in the spread. It was a memorization game. It took many years to be able to put the stories together, and even longer to get out of my head and trust my intuition (which I still struggle with).

Tarot has been an exciting journey in my personal life. In my professional life, I am an instructional designer, course writer and digital content creator. Needless to say, it was a matter of time before I took on the personal project of sharing how I learned to read tarot cards, which truly was building on the basics - which is the symbolism of the cards.

Taking my experience in adult learning and course writing coupled with my passion for reading cards, I created these three minute podcasts to help card readers learn as I did. Ok... they aren't EXACTLY 3 minutes. I'm not THAT good! But I am around that 2.5 to 3.5 minute mark, with special episodes sometimes being longer. Please know there is so much more to know, but this should give a beginner some basics.

For people that already have a familiarity with the cards, taking in the podcast may be a great way to focus on the lessons. For those that would do better with accompanying visuals, I would recommend searching for the card for viewing in the deck, on your computer or phone. I have used the Rider Waite deck to build this podcast course, because it is the deck that I learned on, and it is still my favorite tarot card deck.

Even though I love the woo woo nature of cards, astrology and numerology, it can be confusing when discussing the technical aspects of the cards, and flip flopping in and out of the fluff makes it hard to learn a new skill. This audio course sticks to point so that a person learning can stay in their left brain of "doing" instead of "feeling". I love the fluff and the feeling piece, but for me, I needed to learn the cards before I could lean into how I felt and to incorporate the woo woo on my spiritual path. And .... we can only do so much in three minutes, in the spirit of focusing on basics to start, and repeating key messages (like the suit!) to help them stick.

    Happy learning!

I use the Rider Waite Tarot, but you can view the card while you listen using your own Tarot card deck or a computer. Today, we're exploring the Hermit card, focusing on reversals. Let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then its meaning when reversed. The Hermit Upright represents introspection, inner guidance, and the pursuit of wisdom through solitude. It's a card that invites you to step back, reflect, and seek answers. However, when The Hermit appears reversed, this reflective energy can become isolating or imbalanced. It can suggest that you've withdrawn too deeply or feel disconnected from others and struggling to reintegrate. The reversed Hermit often signals that while solitude has its benefits, excessive withdrawal can lead to feelings of loneliness or a sense of being out of touch with the world around you.So what does that mean when we see the Hermit card reversed in a reading? When the Hermit card reversed appears in a reading, it's a sign to evaluate your relationship with solitude. This card suggests it might be time to reconnect with others and bring balance to your alone time and engagement with the outside world. It may also indicate that you must be more understood and connected to your purpose. The reversed Hermit card invites you to find a way to share your insights or reach out for support, reminding you that you don't have to go through challenges alone. So, what is the best way to memorize the Hermit card in reverse? Tying the card to a personal experience helps me remember it. For example, my reversed Hermit card moment was when I was re-entering the world "in person" after COVID. It was a huge adjustment not being in the office, socializing with people outside of video, other than my husband, and having the freedom to interact with people without considering the rules or consequences. Once the restrictions were lifted and we could interact, it was again an adjustment for me. I was comfortable with not going out and working from home. Like many people I worked with, I didn't want to return to the office. Once my Hermit Card was reversed, I needed to reconnect with others for my well-being and mental health. Truthfully, I am still working on it.That's all for today's episode of the Hermit Card Reversed. Remember, to memorize tarot, keep practicing tarot. I use the Rider Waite Tarot, but you can view the card while you listen using your own Tarot card deck or a computer. Today, we're exploring the Strength card, focusing on reversals. Let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then its meaning when reversed. The Strength card upright embodies inner strength, patience, compassion, and the ability to navigate challenges with a calm and balanced approach. It's about harnessing courage, not through brute force, but through gentle and persistent resolve. However, when Strength appears reversed, its energy shifts to indicate struggles with confidence, feeling overwhelmed, or a lack of belief in oneself. The reversed Strength card often suggests that you may be facing self-doubt or an internal battle that's depleting your energy. It's a reminder that true strength comes from within and that reconnecting with your inner power is essential to overcome the challenges. So what does that mean when we see the Strength card reversed in a reading? When Strength reversed appears in a reading, it's a signal to check how you manage your current challenges. This card asks you to approach yourself with compassion, acknowledging that everyone experiences moments of doubt but that these do not define your potential. It suggests that you struggle to assert yourself or express your needs. The reversed Strength card invites you to find your voice and trust that standing up for yourself does not require aggressive action but faith in your inner power. So, what is the best way to memorize the Strength card in reverse? Tying the card to a personal experience helps me remember it. For example, my reversed Strength card moment is how I conduct myself with a strong personality. I am not someone who responds well to super confrontational people. I am okay with direct and not sugar-coating feedback, but I feel someone can always do it with respect and compassion. As someone who creates content, I am accustomed to feedback and welcome it. I want to put out a product that the client is happy with. When review cycles are less than collaborative, I find myself in the Strength reversed. That's all for today's episode of Strength Card Reversed. Remember, to memorize tarot, keep practicing tarot. I use the Rider Waite Tarot, but you can view the card while you listen using your own Tarot card deck or a computer. Today, we're exploring The Chariot, focusing on reversals. Let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then its meaning when reversed. The Chariot upright represents triumph and willpower. It's the inner strength you need to steer through challenges and the ability to keep your eye on the goal. However, when The Chariot appears reversed, its driven energy becomes scattered or stalled. This card suggests that obstacles may disrupt your path, or you're losing control over a situation or your motivation. The reversed Chariot can indicate a need to reassess your approach and regain focus. It's a call to evaluate whether you're moving in the right direction or if external forces are pulling you away from your goals. So what does that mean when we see The Chariot reversed in a reading? When The Chariot Reversed appears in a reading, it's a sign to reassess your approach. This card suggests that it's time to pause, gather your thoughts, and decide how to regain control over your course of action. It also indicates a need to let go of rigid control and accept that not everything can be forced or driven by sheer will. The Chariot Reversed asks you to find a balance between determination and adaptability, knowing when to push forward and when to allow things to unfold naturally. So, what is the best way to memorize The Chariot in reverse? Tying the card to a personal experience helps me remember it. For example, my reversed Chariot moment is a pattern I have with contracts that are not in flow. I do give it my all when I am in a contract. It's easy when everything flows with team collaboration, and the client is happy with the content. Most contracts are like this. However, it is easy for my Chariot to become reversed for the odd contract that is not in flow. I then need to ask myself how I can create more flow in whatever part is not working. The other option of course is to endure, and to look for another contract upon expiry of the difficult one. Once I have adapted and have made a decision on the next course of action, my chariot can become upright again. Even if the decision is to part ways at the end of the contract, I can steer through the challenges knowing that I have done everything I could. That's all for today's episode of The Chariot Reversed.
