  • Castorology (BEAVERS) with Rob Rich
    Dec 18 2024

Orange teeth! Vanilla butts! Architecture with twigs! Olde-timey joke books? Field naturalist, conservationist, wildlife tracker and “beaver believer” Rob Rich works with the National Wildlife Federation’s coordination of the Montana Beaver Working Group and answers all of our Castorological questions about: baby beavers, tooth tools, lodges, dams, the sound of water, the slap of a tail, who eats beaver and why, beavers in peril, in folklore, in smut books, in your neighborhood and in your dreams forever. Also: yes we discuss slang.

  • Mnemonology (MEMORY) Part 1 with Michael Yassa
    Dec 4 2024

How are memories made? Where are they stored? Where do they go? What was I just talking about? Neurobiologist, professor, researcher, and Director of UC Irvine’s Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory, Dr. Michael Yassa, joins us for a two-parter deep diving into our memories. Get to know the cells that run your life while he also busts flim-flam, and talks about movie myths, aging and memory loss, childbirth amnesia, what happens when you cram for a test, hormones and memory, that thing where you can’t remember a word, how to let go of the past, and more. Next week, we’ll follow up with your Patreon questions about Alzheihmer’s, remembering people’s names, neurodivergence, dementia, collective misremembering, and so much more. Commit it to memory.

Probably the best podcast I've heard

A range of fascinating subjects, all set forth by experts with Alie Ward asking all the questions we all want to know and are afraid to, in case we look stupid. Never thought I could be interested in so many random ologies, and yet not one of these shows have I found boring. This is the podcast I tell everyone to listen to, and when moving to audible, it was the one podcast I knew had to be available to me here, or it wasn't worth paying for the subscription!

Great stuff, Alie! I know you read all these, so be aware of my huge respect for you, love for the podcast, and admiration for the idea in the first place.

If you aren't listening you should be

this is THE BEST podcast series I've ever come across. I've been listening to Dadward (Allie) for over a year now and I've learnt so much from these podcasts! The range of sciences that she shares with us is amazing and the interviews are always amazing with so many great questions, facts and secrets. it's gives me life, so yeah if u wanna learn about THE MOST random things, like trains, and cicadas and planet saving tech, then tune it.
