  • PREVIEW: Breaking down the Dodgers-Padres donnybrook
    Jun 20 2025

Darren Smith and John Gennaro would love nothing more than to talk about soccer and basketball today, but instead they spend almost all of today's podcast breaking down the parade of beanballs between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres over the last two weeks that culminated in a fight between managers Dave Roberts and Mike Shildt and potentially a long-term injury for Fernando Tatis Jr.

  • Football & food with Alex Kirkland
    Jun 19 2025

While John golfed, Darren welcomed Alex Kirkland from The Spanish Football Podcast & ESPN to talk about the Hot Chicken, the FIFA Club World Cup and how Spain became so dominant in the men’s and women’s game. It’s also World Tapas Day, so great timing to talk Spanish cuisine with a Madrid resident.

There’s also a few thoughts on the Padres demoralizing series against the Dodgers, which thankfully ends tonight.

    Jun 18 2025

  • PREVIEW: "Where is Darren Smith now?"
    Jun 17 2025

Darren Smith and John Gennaro talk about shopping at Costco, personal grooming habits, and the faultiness of artificial intelligence before diving into the Padres' loss to the Dodgers last night (and if Dylan Cease was throwing at Andy Pages) and wondering if the Pacers should let an injured Tyrese Haliburton play in game 6 of the NBA Finals.

Please share this podcast so that people that are looking for Darren Smith can find him! Artificial intelligence is of no help.

  • Weekend Recap: Is the Padres' window closing?
    Jun 16 2025

Darren Smith and John Gennaro recap a weekend that didn't go so great for the San Diego Padres but went splendidly for San Diego FC.

Did Buster Posey's aggressiveness in trading for Rafael Devers steal some of A.J. Preller's thunder? Is Yu Darvish (or Michael King) ever coming back to pitch for the Padres?

Also, Darren does a slight mea culpa on the FIFA Club World Cup, which is off to a fun start despite getting somewhat lost in the shuffle of soccer overload in the US.

  • PREVIEW: Searching for light in dark times
    Jun 13 2025

Darren and John skipped the usual Friday scene at Mason Ale works and tried their best to ignore some of the darkest stories of the day. It doesn't always work, but the guys mostly spend the podcast talking about the NHL Stanley Cup Final, the NBA Finals, a Juan Soto vs. MacKenzie Gore rivalry, and the weekend ahead.

The guys also talked about Padres manager Mike Shildt, who is not a very popular manager amongst MLB players and seems to be fighting with his own bullpen strategies in a recent postgame press conference.

  • PREVIEW: Is there a Padres trade coming?
    Jun 12 2025

Darren and John start off the show talking about the U.S. Men's National Team drama and how stupid it is before turning their attention to the San Diego Padres, who dropped their rubber match against the Dodgers on Wednesday and who might be working a trade in the next few days.

Later, the guys talk about what is lining up to be a really great NBA Finals after the Pacers showed up and won game 3 at home to take a 2-1 lead over the heavily-favored OKC Thunder. But you know what would make the Finals even better? A decent broadcast.

  • PREVIEW: The intersection of soccer, money and politics (with Jeremiah Oshan)
    Jun 11 2025

John is back from Florida and has a lot of thoughts on the political divide between that state and California, which ties in well with today's conversations about international soccer coming to the United States this year and next.

After the guys talk a bit about politics and the Padres' beatdown of the Dodgers last night, they bring on Jeremiah Oshan from Sounder At Heart to talk through the battle between Sounders players and ownership over what they should be paid for playing in the FIFA Club World Cup and if the protests we've seen in Los Angeles might carry over into other cities during the tournament.

Finally, Darren and John are shocked at how bad things are going with USMNT and, later, they dig through the dates to try and figure out just how much the international tournaments will hurt SDFC over what should be a challenging next month of MLS action.
