  • Summary

  • One town. One murder. One million hot dogs.

Welcome to Argyle. Grab a hot dog and allow town narrator Jeremy Zax (Bob Odenkirk) to regale you with this region’s rich history! Founded in 1843 by settlers with their sights set on California, these brave souls grew too tired and instead settled for Ohio. Argylites love to celebrate the spirit of “close enough,” like that of Richie McDonough (Brian Posehn) a young man who was a stupendous substitute bowler that never bowled and instead kept the bench warm. His untimely, mysterious death in the Summer of 2013 is Argyle’s darkest secret.

Hear how Richie met his fate, beginning with Argyle’s annual hot dog eating contest and ending with the town’s annual murder. Along the way, you’ll see that Argyle truly has it all: a DMV that’s also a fancy restaurant; the world’s largest lost-and-found; a surgeon who doubles as a magician; and so much more!

Created and written by Nate Odenkirk (The New Yorker, The Onion) and his father Bob Odenkirk (Mr. Show, Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad), Summer in Argyle is proudly Audible’s second best murder comedy. This offbeat Audible Original features some of today’s biggest comedy stars, like David Cross (Arrested Development), Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave), Paul F. Tompkins (Comedy Bang! Bang!), plus Carl Tart, Stephanie Courtney, Lyric Lewis, Stephanie Hsu, andmore. Summer in Argyle is like listening to an old-time radio theatre show soaked in silly and blended with absurdity to produce a perfect froth of nonsense.

As they say in Argyle: Welcome to Argyle - and welcome, to YOU.

A silly and fun story

Features an all-star cast, with a particular favourite being David Cross, and is a surreal murder mystery about a town which suffers 1 murder every year during its annual hot dog eating contest. It's wacky, with fun jokes, and I had fun listening. Would be happy if they ever made another season within Argyle.

Quirky

For a different kind of story it’s worth it. Entertaining but not in a distracting way

good

I loved all the different characters in the book & have decided that Heidi Swain has some sort of knowledge of life in a care home to come up with all the different characters, especially Greta. She is by far my favourite.

Buy a Bottle of Oxygen

Are you considering this podcast?
Buy a bottle of oxygen. You'll need it in between laughs! 🤣

This is an amazing show!
Witty and intelligent critic. Splendid performance. And it has everything!
A kid hidding for years where things "are usually found", a genitor and a school principle who need some "room" to figure out their lives, a cop desperate for a muder, a couple who lived on samples now want to buy the whole town, and a whole town who celebrates "participating" rather than being heroes of anything 🤣

Dear Lord, this was awful

I listened to this desperately waiting for the point where it would become good. Sadly the good part was when the end credits rolled. There's nowhere really to start. The story was ludicrous (and not even in a zany comedy sense). The characters were ridiculous - not one was in any way endearing. There were maybe two or three moments that made me smile, but not a single laugh-out-loud moment. Positives? Not an easy one. I suppose it was well acted given the low quality of the plot and script. That's about it. Definitely not recommended, thank goodness it was a freebie and didn't use up my monthly credit.
