Recipe for a Good Old-Fashioned Western Shootout (Cocktail)
Ingredients
- 2 oz Bourbon or Rye Whiskey
- 1 sugar cube or 1/2 tsp simple syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 orange peel (for garnish)
- 1 maraschino cherry (for garnish)
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- Prepare the Glass: In an Old Fashioned glass, place the sugar cube (or simple syrup) at the bottom.
- Add Bitters: Drench the sugar with the Angostura bitters.
- Muddle: Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to crush the sugar and bitters together until well mixed.
- Add Whiskey: Pour in the bourbon or rye whiskey over the muddled sugar.
- Ice It Up: Add a large ice cube or a handful of smaller ice cubes to the glass.
- Stir: Gently stir the mixture for about 20 seconds to chill and dilute the drink slightly.
- Garnish: Twist the orange peel over the drink to release its oils, then place it in the glass along with the maraschino cherry.
- Serve: Enjoy your good old-fashioned Western shootout cocktail!
Tips
- For an extra twist, experiment with different types of bitters or add a splash of club soda for a refreshing touch.
- Pair with some classic Western snacks like beef jerky or spiced nuts for a full experience!
