The poignant life-and-death odyssey begins when the Little Prince mysteriously appears in the Sahara Desert and says to a downed Aviator, "If you please, draw me a sheep". The startled Aviator complies, but his drawing is rejected, and a conversation ensues with the Little Prince asking numerous questions and telling stories about the very strange grown-ups encountered on his interplanetary journey to Earth. It is later revealed that the Little Prince must return home to asteroid B612 to care for his rose, the one (and only) flower on his small and desolate planet.

Publicado pela primeira vez em 1943, O Pequeno Príncipe é a obra mais famosa do aristocrata, escritor, poeta e aviador pioneiro Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. É um conto poético em que um piloto perdido no deserto encontra um jovem príncipe em visita à Terra vindo de um minúsculo asteroide. A história é filosófica e inclui críticas sociais ao mundo adulto.

La novela fue publicada en abril de 1943, tanto en inglés como en francés, por la editorial estadounidense Reynal & Hitchcock, mientras que la editorial francesa Éditions Gallimard no pudo imprimir la obra hasta 1946, tras la liberación de Francia.
