Sevastopol Sketches (Russian: Севастопольские рассказы, Sevastopolskiye rasskazy) are three short stories written by Leo Tolstoy and published in 1855 to record his experiences during the Siege of Sevastopol (1854–1855) in the Crimean War (1853-1856). This short work of Wilde's was written during his two year incarceration for "gross indecency". This work is a letter which sorts out his life, and his love toward Lord Alfred Douglas. Wilde’s meditation on capital punishment, the Ballad of Reading Gaol comes after he was convicted and imprisoned under charges of gross indecency. The charges stemmed from his affair with Lord Alfred Douglas, the son of the Marquis of Queensberry. It relates the story of an execution of a man who murdered his wife which Wilde witnessed during his internment. Sì, si dice "supercàzzora" e non "supercàzzola". Rigorosamente con la R e non con la L. Questo è assodato, dimostrato, dimostrabile, granitico, inamovibile e definitivo e costituisce una delle poche, pochissime certezze della vita. Tutto il resto è pura illusione.

Questo libro è una amarissima, sarcastica, parodistica e dissacrante critica portata avanti con spietatezza verso il mondo dell'editoria tradizionale, dei premi letterari e di chi vi gira intorno, spesso senza saperlo.

L'umorismo, che in "Debito formativo" era puramente ludico e finalizzato alla narrazione, non poteva che trovare una connotazione amara e desolante, anche se il lettore non faticherà a trarre, anche da qui, un qualche motivo di isolata ilarità.

"Ho portato dentro di me questo libro per undici anni, prima di darlo alle stampe, ed evidenziare storture, contraddizioni e incertezze sull'omicidio di Ester Pasqualoni, amica, confidente e persona universalmente stimata, avvenuto in un parcheggio laterale di Sant'Omero (Teramo). Il romanzo picaresco spagnolo ha contrassegnato una delle fasi più originali e feconde della narrativa di tutti i tempi. Valerio Di Stefano, scrittore, ispanista, filologo e linguista ripropone, attraverso questo breve romanzo, stilemi e artifici letterari in chiave tremendista, con lo sfondo della città che ha sempre amato, Livorno. Attraverso la vicenda umana di Armando Verticelli, detenuto per crimini efferati nel carcere labronico, l'Autore rivolge uno sguardo compassionevole ma disincantato alla pietà degli ultimi, senza perdere tenerezza e rigore narratologico.

Qualcuno mi chiede ancora de "La pioggia di Roseto". Fu un componimentino di nessuna pretesa, parodia della fin troppo osannata "La pioggia nel pineto" di D'Annunzio, che scrissi nel 2011 e che inclusi in un volumetto dal titolo "Duepuntozero", ormai pressoché introvabile, e che oggi comprerebbe solo qualche imbecille o qualche elettore della sedicente opposizione. A volte coincidono. Ho deciso di ricavarne un audiolibro e un podcast per ringraziare quanti mi onorano del proprio affetto e riservano alle mie nullaggini il loro ricordo.

I libri, nella loro storia, che poi è la stessa della letteratura, hanno vissuto e continuano a vivere vicende al limite del paradosso. Censure, tagli, rimaneggiamenti come se piovessero, messe all'indice, plagi, imitazioni, parodie, seguiti, rifacimenti. Pare sia la stessa sorte destinata a Vannacci e questo, al di là delle valutazioni sui contenuti, indubbiamente dispiace
