As a result, he would have to endure dozens of surgeries as he would fight for his life growing up. Always With Me also details other struggles of growing up disabled such as bullying, depression, suicide, medical abuse, sexual abuse, and pain of receiving medical treatment throughout his life. Despite all the trauma he endures in life, he finds his faith in God.

Billy is a typical middle-grade boy who is excited to be spending his summer vacation with his grandparents in Indiana. He is super excited because this time, he is going alone. After setting myself up for failure and my world began to fall apart, I found myself sitting alone, humiliated, and broken beyond repair. There was no way of coming back from this, or was there? I chose to end my life when I could not handle the consequences that came from my own actions. My mind was totally consumed with dark and painful thoughts that I could not let go of, but God, who is in control, decided, "No, Jerome, it's not your time.
