One of the many important points that Dr. Hawkins stresses in this lecture is that in order to follow his Pathway of Devotional Non-Duality, your devotion to Truth has to be greater than the devotion to the payoff of being right. When this prevails, one is well on the way to Enlightenment. What keeps the ego in place? It is the pleasure it gets from its positionalities. The willingness to surrender the gratification and pleasure of the payoff of the ego's positions is the sacrifice. Dr. Hawkins also informs us that spiritual work is a lot easier that we think!

Dr. Hawkins opens this lecture with thoughts about the mind, positionality, and dedication to truth. A person has to be willing to sacrifice everything and anything for the truth. He explains how "wantingness" causes misery and that one’s point of view contributes to that state. Stating the truth usually upsets some people. He discusses the spiritual ego, our perceived faults, what to do about them in order to become "bulletproof", and what brings us joy. In contrast, he talks about hatred in the world today and the actions that come out of it.

In this awe-inspiring lecture, Dr. Hawkins reveals that peace can't really be accomplished in the world, that it is an inner state. Peace and freedom are what you are and when you let go of trying to control things and give God advice, it puts you into a space where it's irrelevant. Dr. Hawkins explains that the intellect is really our problem, as it is very fast and takes credit for what happens and presumes to be the causal effect. If we can get beyond thinking in terms of a "this" causing a "that", then you don't need to make up a false explanation of why things happen.

Dr. Hawkins explains that everything is spontaneously being what it is and that nothing is causing anything. He talks about the pathway of negation and the Void, and goes into detail about karmic inheritance and how it affects our lives. Of great benefit is the information he supplies about relationships and the levels upon which they may exist, including the qualities of horizontal and vertical relationships (i.e., alignment vs. involvement). He goes into detail about the ego, how it loves suffering, loss, hatred, and even grieving, and the “juice” it gets out of that.

This unique event allowed Dr. Hawkins to answer some deep and interesting questions in an intimate bookstore setting. Questions came from novices who are unfamiliar with his work as well as from students who have studied his teachings for several years.
