The sirens blare. The searchlights scan the grounds of Douglass Branch Penitentiary, but brutal serial killer Waylon Prichard is gone. Austin Branch, the namesake of the prison's founder and trained tracker, pursues the killer, but soon discovers an impossible phenomenon that will make his pursuit of Prichard more difficult—and far more dangerous. And it's not just the killer he has to worry about anymore. What he discovers is far more devastating to the entire world.

Austin, Grace, and Phin working with their refugees from the year 2160, must now stop a new, but to some, a familiar threat. With serial killer Waylon Prichard dispatched, the new challenge our friends face seems even more insurmountable.

Eric A. Shelman was born in Fort Worth, Texas, so he's not sure how much more American someone can be. He grew up in the '60s, with memories of community parades, men and women on horseback carrying flags of his home state of Texas and the United States, and all the riders proudly wearing red, white, and blue. Patriotic music played in the background while onlookers ate hot dogs and cotton candy cheering on the participants.

A camera, tainted with ancient, evil blood, is purchased by Detective Jack Hunger, who just wants to document his career as a crime scene photographer. He sets up his own darkroom at home, but when he develops the photograph of his first murder victim, something bizarre happens.
