The sleepy town of Heartsdale, Georgia, is jolted into panic when Sara Linton, paediatrician and medical examiner, finds Sibyl Adams dead in the local diner. As well as being viciously raped, Sibyl has been cut: two deep knife wounds form a lethal cross over her stomach. They've been targeted. And it seems the past is catching up with both of them. Twelve years earlier, a straightforward weekend at the beach becomes a nightmare for Sara and Jeffrey. While visiting Jeffrey's hometown, they are first on the scene when Jeffrey's best friend Robert shoots dead an intruder who has broken into his home. Jeffrey is keen to clear his friend's name, but the facts don't tally with Robert's story. Soon, Sara doesn't know who to trust.
