Story
The battlefield was soaked in blood. Screams of injured soldiers rang through the air. Eleven-year-old Nathaniel Knox knelt behind a rock, his gun clutched in his shaking hands. Nate had been heading to New York City to find his father. But now he was trapped in a terrible gunfight between American and British troops. This Revolutionary War had started as a thrilling fight for freedom. The 13 American colonies were breaking apart from England, away from King George III.

Story
In 1753, Catherine Wasson and her extended family depart placid New Hampshire to settle in the raucous Mohawk Valley of New York, in search of fertile land and a better life. It doesn’t come easy. Catherine must adapt to a multicultural frontier society of wealthy Dutch settlers, hardscrabble Germans, Scots-Irish, African slaves and the original inhabitants; the fiercely independent Iroquois confederation. Within months of their arrival, conflict with their age-old enemy, the French, erupts into a war that threatens their homes and lives.

Story
A novel about the family of Peter Monclair, his family and his slaves, since any colonial plantation was, although Jefferson stated such could not exist, in reality a biracial community. Moonroy, founded by Peter's father, a French Huguenot and one-time pirate, was not one of the grand river plantations of South Carolina, but it was a prosperous one. Peter was an early signer under Gadsden's Liberty Tree and, like many of his friends, came to realize that reason and law would not change England's policies.
