About this listen
Devon Murphy has never believed that there were fairies at the bottom of the garden, but when he's in an accident on his way to his grandmother's house and comes face to face with the biggest, baddest wolf he's ever seen, he's forced to reconsider. When his grandmother asks him to look into a string of suspicious accidents, he finds a much bigger mystery to unravel. From his childhood best friend to the too-attractive deputy Wade Hunter, everyone in Rowan Harbor seems to have something to hide. Devon has to get to the bottom of it all before the accidents turn deadly. Contains mature themes.

The story, the lore, the mystery & intrigue were intriguing, however as this was the start of the series, this book needed to be a lot longer than it was.
As we're being introduced to this new world, lore, characters, magical abilities, couple, etc... it needed to be a bit more developed than it was.
The start was fantastic & I was hooked, but the romance suffered in favour of the world building.
The MCs have X4 very short interactions & suddenly they're a couple. Out of the X4 interactions they had, all were seconds long & the longest one they had, Devon didn't even know it was Wade.
They "zapped" at the beginning & they only meet again at the 3hr mark, so more than halfway. Their meeting is inconsequential, they meet one more time, which does last slightly longer, but it's cut off & the next time they meet... it's insta-relationship, no build-up, no getting to know each other, no natural romantic progression... nothing!
They're strangers who dislike each other on sight & through no romantic nor even friendship development whatsoever, suddenly they're in a relationship 🤔
The town's folk talking about their eventual (as they're fated, naturally) relationship does a LOT of the heavy lifting in the romantic build-up!
Had the author expanded a bit more on the world building & put a bit more effort in developing their relationship in a way that felt more organic rather than relying on they're fated mates, therefore they work.. I might've considered continuing the series, but as it is.. this book raised more questions than it answered.
The conclusion to the mystery was anticlimactic to say the least & I can't say that I know the main characters any better at the end of the book than I did at the beginning beyond their magical & supernatural abilities 🤷♀️
intriguing but underdeveloped
