Summary

Eli may only be 30, but he has had enough of pretend submissives. When he spies Jarod in a BDSM club, everything about the man screams submission. So what if Jarod is probably 20 years older than Eli. What does age matter, anyway? All he can see is what he's always wanted - a sub who wants to serve.

Jarod spent 24 years with his Master before fate took him. Four years on, Jarod is still lost, so when a young Dom takes charge, Jarod rolls with it and finds himself serving again. But he keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop. Because there's going to come a point when Eli realizes he's a laughingstock in the club. Who would want to be seen with a 50-year-old sub?

After several missteps, Eli realizes that in order to find happiness, they will need friends who will understand. At a friend's insistence, he visits Collars & Cuffs, where they are met with open arms. As they settle in to their new life, Eli begins to see things differently and he dares to think he can have it all. Until a phone call threatens to take it all away.

Superb audio of a great book

Dom of Ages is a beautiful May/December story of of love, acceptance and understanding. Jared is an older Sub who has been adrift since losing his Master 4 years ago. The prologue giving Jared’s backstory is heartbreaking. Eli is a Dom in his 20s looking for the right relationship after seeing friends happy in their own relationships. Both of them have an ideal relationship in their head and seem to be grasping for it. What they get is so much better.

I loved the ups and downs they go through as their relationship grows, it feels realistic, not too sweet and not drowning in angst, just perfect given their experiences. KC Wells and Parker Williams know how to build worlds and characters you can believe in and love. I get so absorbed I find it hard to put their books down, even more so with the audiobook.

Joel Leslie’s narration only enhanced this book for me. Not only did he make the main characters of Eli and Jared stand out but he also brings the secondary characters alive as well. He has paid so much attention to the tone of voice and emotions of the characters, especially I felt like I lived through everything with them. Joel has such a marvellous range of voices and accents, he is a joy to listen to.

Even better than reading the book!!

If you could sum up Dom of Ages in three words, what would they be?

Hot, Inspiring and Tearjerker

What other book might you compare Dom of Ages to, and why?

The other books in the Collars and Cuffs series.

What about Joel Leslie’s performance did you like?

How he got the emotions of the characters just right. I knew there was some sad parts, but listening to the audio and the emotion brought tears to my eyes.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes I did want to keep listening, but I had to sleep!!

Any additional comments?

I have read the book, and it is by far my favourite of them all, I guess as one of the characters was older.

I think I was curious to see if the audiobook could be as good as reading the book - and boy did it. Joel Leslie just amazes me how he can manage to get the emotions just right for each of the characters. There were many voices in the book, but Joel I commend you on a wonderful job.

This story is about an older submissive, who is alone after his master dies unexpectedly, and they had been together for a long long time. After mourning his death for over 4 years, Jarod decides to try and see if he can find someone new to serve, and goes to the local BDSM club. Due to his age, he is laughed at, and basically ridiculed.

Enter Eli, who sees Jarod as the answer to his prayers, and boy does he break all the rules he should follow being a dom!

I am not going to spoil things, but once you start listening you will be hooked. I loved the book, and I loved the audio just as much, I can guarantee that this is one that I will listen to again.

Wonderfully narrated BDSM gay romance

Dom of Ages by K C Wells (Audio) Narrated by Joel Lesley

Review by Shee Reader for Boy Meets Boy Reviews

Rating 4.5 Hearts

Jarod feels old. Old and lonely. His Sir, Philip, died four years ago, and the twenty-four years they had together before Philip was taken have left Jarod rudderless. He wants a new dom, but what self respecting dom wants to be seen with a 50 year old sub?

Enter Eli. He might only be 30 years old, but he's had enough of pretend subs. He wants a sub who lives the role. He wants a sub to care for him. One night at his local club he spies Jarod, kneeling quietly, and wants the man for himself.

Eli is a young dom who makes mistakes, but is man enough to own them, and make them right. His friends at the Collars and Cuffs club play their part in helping him become the man and dominant he wants to be.

Jarod needs the friends he makes at the club, they give him a new appreciation of himself and his contribution to others. Seeing Jarod develop a more robust sense of self and learning to value himself and his experiences is truly lovely.

The story is a rollercoaster of self doubt, discovery and eventually, love. The ups and downs are beautifully described and are so real, I felt like I was living the story through Jarod and Eli. This is a truly beautiful book, and the revisiting previous Collars and Cuffs couples is so enjoyable, like visiting old friends. That said, the most outstanding thing about this audio book is the Narration.

Joel Lesley does such an incredible job that at times I felt like there were several different narrators doing the different parts! His characterisation was perhaps the best I’ve listened to, and the emotion and dramatisation of the story were so touching, that Joel had me laughing and crying along with the characters.

If you’ve never given in to the lure of audio books, and like gay romance with a BDSM kink, this would be the perfect gateway book!

Highly recommended.

Beautiful Story with a Fabulous Narration.

The Collars and Cuffs series is one of my all time favourites and I've read all the books. I started to collect the audiobooks and after enjoying the first six I was very hesitant about continuing with them due to the change in narrator. I loved Nick J Russo's performance and was, in truth, a bit unhappy that he couldn't complete the series. I really shouldn't have been worried though, Joel Leslie's performance is flawless.

Jared is a submissive in his fifties, his life is empty and rudderless since he lost his master in a plane crash four years before. His life lacks direction and purpose. All Jared wants is to serve, to look after someone, can Eli, a Dom, with far more to learn than he realises, who is also twenty years his junior, be that man. Such a simple premise, but the story is anything but simple, it's beautiful and heartfelt, full of words that Joel Leslie brings fully to life as we follow Jared and Eli's journey from strangers, to dom and submissive, and ultimately to lovers, as at its heart that's what Dom of Ages is, a love story.

Joel Leslie has a noticeable regional accent for Eli which quickly became very natural and enjoyable. For Jarod he uses a deep mature slightly upper class voice which fitted the character perfectly and I felt Joel was able to convey Jared's initial hopelessness, desperation and need very well, and a few times I found myself in tears listening to Jarod.

It been a few years since I've read the book but that didn't matter, Joel Leslie's narration was rich and diverse, and easy to follow, I was never confused between the characters, something that can very easily happen in audiobooks. The story was an absolute joy to listen too and I've never had ten hours pass to quickly. I'm now looking forward to Endings and Beginnings, the final book in the Collar and Cuffs series, which is also narrated by Joel Leslie.

Loved the story and characters

In each of the stories in the Collars and Cuffs series we meet a sub who is paired with a Dom. At first sight, they appear mismatched due to age, experience, needs or circumstances, but over the course of the book, a D/s bond is formed and their relationship develops. They fall in love as they get to know each other and participate in various scenes together, either in the club or at their home. Having said that, each story comprises of a different pair of characters and focuses on specific aspects of the BDSM lifestyle. Each storyline is unique and each time I adored the main characters and the hot and often playful interaction between them.

I especially liked Jarod in Dom of Ages. He’s such a beautiful and selfless person. At several points in the story, his actions or the things that happened to him reduced me to tears. I also loved how many of the characters from the previous books took on an important role in this story and were there for Jarod and Eli when they needed support and friendship.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the first six books as narrated by Nick J Russo and was a little bewildered why there was a change of narrator for the final two books. Personally I like continuity of character voices and narration throughout a series. However, you can’t fault Joel for his enthusiasm and professional approach. He portrays the emotions clearly and uses a variety of British-sounding accents that work well for the characters.

good as the ebook, my favorite book in the series

The story is always 4-5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, I’m over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B
