Richard Rohr O.F.M.
About this listen
In this retreat experience, Richard Rohr explores the role of men in society and religion. Father Rohr focuses on the yearning to rediscover passion in masculine identity and in the purpose of life. He uses archetypes (symbolic images) to transmit his powerful message about male spirituality and integration. He challenges listeners to encounter their archetype (king, warrior, magician, or lover), recognize its dark side, and empower their journey through drumming, dialogue, and discovery.

Astonishingly complete representation of men’s movement thinking from a Christian spirituality viewpoint
I wish I had heard this years ago. Though I may not have had the reflective capacity to take it all in. Richard looks at the 4 archetypes of masculinity, considering how we carry them in our personal and cultural psyches, and also what the shadow / negative versions of them are like when we corrupt them.
Originally presentations at a men’s retreat, each talk steps more deeply and fearlessly into the subject with candid insight into the male imagination, most wonderfully informed by his regular encounters with prisoners in his role as a prison chaplain. This both liberates our own self-understanding, and also our compassionate grasp of how many men from backgrounds with inadequate male role-models end up diminished through criminal sub- cultures.
