British-born portrait artist, Alexis Taiwo, is the inspirational, thought-provoking, and brutally honest author of Trauma Bonds. Fueled by her passion to help women heal, Alexis is determined to share her story and the lessons she’s learned from her life, which became obvious over time. Shadowed by abuse, she was well into adulthood before she fully realized the Impact of what she went through and was still going through. Her work seeks to help others come to terms with their past by holding a mirror up to hers. After realizing the extent of her abuse and the sad reality that she is far from alone, Alexis studied trauma and abuse, going on to work as a counselor and advocate, speaking up for women. Her professional life has been driven by her desire to connect with and understand people, which led her to portraiture and a successful career in sales. Trauma Bonds has been published once before, but Alexis withdrew it from the shelves when she realized she had more to learn. Now that she’s confident her story is complete, she’s determined to use it to help others break free from their own Trauma Bonds of Abuse, and find the strength within themselves to recover. Although she was born in the UK and raised between the UK and Nigeria, It was in the US that she finally "woke up". She has three sons of whom she is fiercely proud, and she devotes her life to connecting with women and helping them see themselves living without the far-reaching effects of abuse.
