Breaking news - I've turned to crime! Death of an Englishman with its Oxford college setting, long train rides, quaint villages, tantalising cast of suspects, and its satisfyingly tidy conclusion is – at first sight – a traditional murder mystery. I’m particularly proud of my feisty, feminist and accessible accounts of female creatives, including my most influential book, Sounds and Sweet Airs: The Forgotten Women of Classical Music (2016) and, more recently, Eve Bites Back: An Alternative History of English Literature.
