Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock was born and raised in Alaska, where she still currently lives. She spent many years fishing commercially with her family and as a reporter for Alaska Public Radio stations, where she was also the host and producer of Independent Native News. Her debut novel, The Smell of Other People's Houses won the Alaskana Award from the Alaska library Association and was nominated for the William C. Morris Award in 2016 (YALSA). It was also shortlisted for the Carnegie medal and nominated for the Guardian Prize, among other accolades.
