What does it really mean to be brave? That’s the question at the heart of Legends of War. I didn’t write these stories to glorify violence—I wrote them to explore moments when ordinary people, pushed to their limits, chose courage, compassion, and resilience. War reveals who we are when everything else is stripped away. And sometimes, that’s when people show their very best. As a longtime homeroom teacher working with kids ages 8–12, I’ve seen how the right story can light a spark, especially for struggling or reluctant readers. Over the past 20 years, my passion has been helping these students discover that they can be readers. What works best are true stories with grit, heart, and action. In a world where social media too often promotes shallow or toxic ideas of masculinity, I try to offer a different kind of hero—one who leads with self-control, empathy, and quiet strength. These are the stories I want my students, and my own sons, to grow up with. I live in Vienna, Austria, with my wife and our two young boys. You can find us hiking in the mountains, out at the local parks, and sometimes in the local pub with a good book.
