I am an author, event organiser and ultra-endurance athlete from Bournemouth in Dorset. In 2011 I founded Brutal Events, which organises one of the hardest triathlons in the world, The Brutal, and other extreme running, swimming and biking races all over the UK. The first book I wrote (No Easy Day) was about my self-supported run from John o’ Groats to Land’s End carrying all my equipment in a Baby Buggy, along with the images I took over the 892 miles. My second book is an autobiography about my struggles with alcohol addiction, abusive relationships, eating disorders, how I beat them and found happiness and success in triathlon. The book’s finale focuses on my biggest achievement to date, the continuous Double Deca. This monster event involves a 48 mile swim, 2,240 mile bike and 20 marathons back-to-back. I am the only person in the UK to have completed this race. The one thing that has stood out for me over the years is that I love to support, encourage and inspire people like myself (not very good at sport and with low self-esteem etc.) to push themselves and set big goals. The two quotes I live by are; “If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough.” “Don’t be afraid to fail; be afraid not to try.”
