I was born in San Diego, California August 1948. I graduated from James Madison High School in Claremont Ca. in 1966. Attended Claremont Community College in 1966. Drafted into US Army March 1968. Attended basic training and Advanced Infantry training at Ft. Ord, Ca. March 1968 - August 1968. Arrived in Vietnam August 1968 and was assigned to Charlie Co. 2/27 th Inf. 25th Infantry Division. My unit was called the Wolfhounds. I served in the second platoon for 365 Days. The Wolfhounds were famous for always getting put in the worst combat situations. We spent a good amount of time doing air combat assaults. Our area of operation included Cu Chi, Tay Ninh, Hobo Woods, Iron Triangle, Parrots Beak, Fish Hook, Cambodian border, and inside Cambodia (when the US Govt said we were not there). In the year I served in the Wolfhounds my unit lost 45 men KIA and countless wounded. I was awarded the Bronze Star with V device and the purple heart during combat. When I returned home I finished my obligation to the Army at Ft. Campbell. I was assigned as an instructor and NCOIC of a basic rifle marksmanship range. I was Honorably discharged in March 1970. I returned to San Diego for a short time, got married, and moved to Cody Wyoming. I signed up for the Wyoming National Guard and served 4 years. I worked for Safeway and drove 18 wheelers. I attended and graduated from Northwest Community College in Powell, Wyoming graduating with an associate's degree in 1972. Moved to Billings, Montana in 1972 and attended and graduated from Eastern Montana College with a bachelor's degree with honors in secondary education and American History. I taught school at Yellowstone Boys Ranch in Billings for two years. I started my own business and got divorced in 1979. I moved to Great Falls, Mt, and started a career with ATT selling Mountain Bell Yellow Pages. I started the Quintrell Family Allstate Insurance Agency in Great Falls and retired after 25 years of service. In 2003 I had an epiphany and decided to locate the guys I had served with in Vietnam. In 2004 I hosted the first wolfhound reunion in Washington, DC . Twenty men and their wives attended and it was the begginning of an amazing healing process for all in attendance. I continued looking for more guys and by 2021 I had located over 100 men. We continued having reunions and in 2019 my son Tim and I set out to video tape every veteran in our group and create a website to share their stories with family members and other veterans. These stories make up the history of my unit and will be archived for the next 100 years. Our platoon website can be viewed at www.wolfhounds2nd27th.org where the interviews and hundreds of original pictures can be viewed.Since retirement I have went into high schools and shared with the students what it was like in Vietnam during my tour. I am currently serving as a guest speaker at American Legion and Patriotic events.
