Massimo Polidoro, author, skeptic and Professor of Anomalistic Psychology and Science Communication at the University of Padua, is one of the foremost investigators of anomalous phenomena, claimed psychic powers and mysterious happenings as well as a full time science communicator fostering critical thinking. «Massimo Polidoro is a true sleuth» wrote Umberto Eco «and, if you are not one of those who cry when they are told that Santa Claus does not exist, you will learn from him many entertaining and instructing tales. However, the fact the Polidoro has so much to do, only means that credulity is more widespread than ever». Mentored by the celebrated magician and debunker of fraudulent claims, James “The Amazing” Randi, Massimo had the extraordinary opportunity of becoming his only apprentice in the art of investigating mysteries and unmasking lies. From day one, Polidoro was down the rabbit hole with Randi, into the incredible world of psychic frauds, fake haunted places, mystery mongers and wild conspiracy theories. A unique experience that, day after day, not only taught Polidoro to see through the way people deceive others and themselves, but under the guidance of Randi, also helped him hone his own skills and strategies for making better decisions, recognizing the mental traps that get us into trouble and generally make sense of the world. He later graduated in Psychology at the University of Padua and was the co-founder and current Executive Director of CICAP (the Italian Committee for the Investigation of Claims on Pseudoscience). Author of over 50 books, mostly published in Italian, some in English e many translated in various languages, Massimo has also written over 1000 articles for pop science magazines and since 2002 holds a regular column in "The Skeptical Inquirer", magazine of the Center for Skeptical Inquiry, that was previously held by Martin Gardner. He frequently lectures, holds seminars and workshop on the scientific method, the psychology of deception, anomalistic psychology and the investigation of mysteries all over Europe and the United States. Massimo Polidoro is also a TV personality (his “Legend Detectives” was broadcasted internationally by the Discovery Channel) and in Italy he is often called as an expert, a consultant and as a host for science programs. Nowadays, he usually discusses on the psychology of deception in “Superquark”, the historical and still most watched Italian science TV show created by Piero Angela. He also maintains an ever growing following on social media: his YouTube channel has over 100.000 subscribers and with his social media and web presence he reaches over 300.000 people. “Albert Einstein once said that the most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious, the source of all true art and all science,” says Massimo. “And I am lucky enough to have been able to make a profession out of my passion for the mysterious.”
