Russell Rowland's latest book is COLD COUNTRY (Dzanc Books, 2019), which was reviewed in the Wall Street Journal. Before that, he published Fifty-Six Counties: A Montana Journey, which was the result of two years of travel and research of his home state. Rowland has an MA in Creative Writing from Boston University. He has published five novels. IN OPEN SPACES (Harpercollins 2002), received a starred review from Publisher's Weekly and made the San Francisco Chronicle's bestseller list. The sequel, THE WATERSHED YEARS, was a finalist for the High Plains Book Award for fiction. His third novel, HIGH AND INSIDE, was released in June 2013 with Bangtail Press, and was also a High Plains Book Award finalist. His fourth novel was the prequel to IN OPEN SPACES, ARBUCKLE, published in 2016. He also co-edited an anthology of essays by writers from the West, WEST OF 98: LIVING AND WRITING THE NEW AMERICAN WEST. He currently lives in Billings, Montana, where he teaches online workshops and does private consulting with other writers. And he hosts a podcast, THE STATE OF MONTANA, which you can find on Apple or Spotify.
