Sarah Holland-Batt was born in Southport, Queensland in 1982, and has lived in Italy, the United States, Japan and Australia. Her first book, Aria, was the recipient of several major literary prizes, including the Judith Wright Poetry Prize, the Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize, and the FAW Anne Elder Award, and was shortlisted in both the New South Wales Premier's Literary Awards and the Queensland Premier's Literary Awards. She has been awarded fellowships from Yaddo and MacDowell colonies, the Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship, an Asialink Literature Residency, a Hawthornden Fellowship, and the Australia Council Literature Residency at the B.R. Whiting Studio in Rome, among other honours. She works as a Senior Lecturer and coordinator of the Creative Writing MFA Program at QUT, and the poetry editor of Island magazine.
