Thomas "Tommy" Krappweis (born May 9, 1972, in Munich) is a German author, comedian, film, television, and audio drama director, producer, and musician. Krappweis became known as a member of the ensemble of the German TV comedy show RTL Samstag Nacht, which he was part of from 1995 to 1998. He is also the creator of the KiKa character Bernd das Brot (together with author Norman Cöster), for which he received the prestigious Grimme Award in 2004. He wrote and directed the film adaptation of the first volume of his fantasy trilogy Mara und der Feuerbringer in 2013/14, which won the Jury Fantasy Award at the German Role Play Convention in 2015. In 2022/23, Krappweis and his company bumm film GmbH released the story as an elaborate, star-studded audio drama series, which became one of the biggest successes for the EdelKids label that year. His book series Ghostsitter (2015), aimed at all age groups, won the LovelyBooks Award three times. The audio drama series of the same name, produced by Krappweis, debuted as the most successful audio drama on Amazon Music Germany in 2017. To date, 19 Ghostsitter adventures have been published, with new releases planned for 2025. The U.S. version of Ghostsitter reached the Top 5 in 2020 and has so far produced four seasons (as of 2023). The audio drama Kohlrabenschwarz from 2020 (co-written with Christian von Aster) will continue with Season 3 in 2025. The streaming fiction series of the same name on Paramount+ garnered what Krappweis describes as “the best reactions and reviews of my career.” Together with the podcast team Hoaxilla and his wife Sophia, Krappweis began live-streaming discussions on his Twitch channel WildMics in 2020. Every Tuesday, he reaches thousands of viewers with the live streams and podcasts #nachsitzen, featuring experts, individuals affected by discrimination, and other interesting guests discussing various topics. For this commitment, Tommy Krappweis and his team were honored with the Civil Society Award, the Kaiser Maximilian Prize Tirol, and the Europa State Prize. Krappweis himself received the European of the Year Award in 2022 for his work in political and social education.
