I write because it cleanses me, leaves me empty of whatever bitterness and wretched emotion grips me. Like little demons squirming under my skin, behind my eyes, and across the tips of my fingers - the thoughts weigh me down. Writing, I find, strips all of them away - at least for a time. I carry things way past the point I should. I used to think it was a negative, a bad thing, some manner of character flaw. Once I started writing all that changed. I realized I am carrying those memories, those emotions, not the other way around. If I can carry a thing, I can put a thing down if I know the way of it. So I write. Every one of my stories, plots, narratives - they all trace themselves back to one of my experiences. The connection may be tenuous or tortured, but I can draw a direct line to each memory. I have quit smoking and drinking. I do better with my temper, and I have become better at removing people in my life who are only there because we were in the same environment, and not because we have anything specific in common. I am learning to communicate through my writing, and everything I write down is emotional context. I hope my words strike you in the same way they leave me. WHY SHOULD YOU READ? I want you to feel. I want you to squirm. I want you to wonder, and I want to shock you. I want my words to crawl into your memories and pop up when you drive, when you shower, when you hear a piece of music. Seriously. These little demons need a home. Also, I like to read books that don't go down in one sitting. I don't mean they are hard to read - I mean the books which make you suddenly freeze up, flip back one hundred pages, and have the easter egg explode in your mind. I like books that get better with repetition, and I strive to write the same. You can find more at www.patreon.com/williamrandallwriter
